Admissions Policy
Written by R M Steele

PlaygroundParents are always welcome to visit the school.  Appointments can be made with the School Secretary, by telephone or in person at the School Office.

If a request for a place/s is refused because our admissions number (AN) for the requested year group has been reached there is an appeals procedure for those child/ren.

The Local Education Authority (LEA) is the admission authority for this school and places in Reception Classes are allocated in accordance with their published arrangements.   An evening for new parents is held to introduce staff and give key information.   Foundation Stage staff, Governors and representatives of the PFA attend.  Parents are given confidential forms to fill in, together with a copy of the School Prospectus.  We are pleased to answer questions about the day to day running of the school.

Local pre-schools are invited to visit our school with the children who will be joining us in September.  Reception class teachers liaise with the local pre-schools from which most of our new intake are drawn. This provides an opportunity to introduce themselves prior to the children's visit to us.

During the Summer Term, a half-day visit is arranged for the new children and their parents.  Parents are encouraged to settle their children, and may leave if they wish to do so.

When children start school it is a great help, particularly to the children's confidence, if they are able to:

  • Go to the toilet without assistance
  • Dress and undress themselves, do up their coats and shoes.  Velcro fastenings are particularly helpful
  • Understand and comply with simple verbal instructions

It would be useful for your child to bring:

  • PE kit
  • A playtime snack eg fruit or plain biscuits for morning playtime.
  • On the first full day, a lunch box, if they are having packed lunches, with favourite packed lunch items so that there is nothing new for them to cope with at lunchtime.

Please ensure all items including snacks are clearly labelled with the child's name.
