Our school is for children between the ages of four and eleven years. As a voluntary controlled school the Church of England is represented on the Governing Body. The school is on the western edge of the town of Yeovil in Somerset. The modern buildings are set in a pleasant location with tarmac playgrounds and a large playing field to the rear of the school.
The school was opened in November 1989 when the old Preston Primary School was closed due to insufficient accommodation and relocated on the Abbey Manor Park development. Our school has many facilities including: a drama hall in which musical activities take place, a gymnasium which is also our school hall where assemblies for KS1 and KS2 take place. We also have a computer network area, a library and an all weather play area for Early Years children. The school is organised into 14 mixed ability classes, two classes for each year group for Year R to Year 6. (Some setting occurs for Literacy and Numeracy.) The primary school age range covers 3 Key Stages. | Reception Year | - Foundation Key Stage (Infants) | | Years1 and 2 | - Key Stage 1 (Infants) | | Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 | - Key Stage 2 (Juniors) |
Preston C of E VC Primary School has strong links with the wider community and also Yeovil Town. We frequently partake in community and musical activities. We have a good reputation for attending sporting activities. Regular links are made with St James' Church. We welcome the interest and support of parents in all aspects of the school life. We aim to keep you well informed about your child's education so that we develop a partnership between home and school. You are encouraged to keep in regular contact with your child's class teacher and to `pop in' for a quick word now and again at the end of school. Teachers will always be pleased to spare a few moments, unless they have other engagements. If parents prefer a long discussion with the teacher, this can be arranged. Formal consultations with parents are arranged in the Autumn Term and Spring Term when children's progress is discussed. All children receive an end of year report from their teacher. An opportunity to discuss the report will be available. Each term parents are advised, by letter, as to the curriculum content their children will be following. It is important that you keep the school informed of any important changes that may affect your child. Please let us know promptly about any medical, physical or emotional difficulties and advise us of changes of address, telephone number, contact/childminder etc. Our aim is to provide equal opportunities for all children. We recognise how important it is for each individual to have a positive perception of their role in life and the possibilities open to them.
