JONES THE BUILDERS COME TO PRESTON PRIMARY SCHOOL
Our new hall extension is underway and as part of this staff from the Jones Construction company came to talk to our pupils in assembly about safety around building sites and about the fabulous new improvements currently underway on our school site. The interactive assembly saw some of our children using Jenga blocks to demonstrate whether a building was safe and stable and what might happen if it was not!
Accolade for an ex-pupil
The Nancy Rothwell Award is a national competition organised by the Royal Society of Biology who have their headquarters at the Francis Crick Institute in London. Charlotte Weeks won the 12-14 age group with her visually stunning model of a Panther chameleon. The model shows exterior and interior features and has a real sense of humour. The chameleon's tongue has shot out to catch a grasshopper with a very surprised look on its face.
The presentation was held Thursday 11th October in the evening up in London at the Francis Crick institute. Her prize includes drawing materials, a cheque and a day at the Royal Veterinary School with an illustrator.
At Preston Academy we are all very proud of Charlotte's achievement. It is a great example of how more than one subject can contribute to a great outcome.
Comment from Preston Academy: Charlotte was a credit to our school and a number of people commented on her obvious ability. One of the representatives from ITN said she was someone to watch. Having won an age section in a national competition Charlotte has been inspired to take it further and is keen to encourage others in the school.
Part of her prize is a day's training with a professional illustrator at the Royal Veterinary College. This will be in December.
