Somerset Carnival Visit – (Brazil link)
Year 3 spent a wonderful morning learning about the traditions of carnival in this country. They were able to make up a dance routine, try on costumes and learn about how they are made.
During their RE lesson, Willow Class discussed what ‘Creation’ was. They went outside and looked at the world around them. Using an artist’s palette, they collected items from nature that gave them the ‘WOW’ factor. Back in class, they talked about why they thought they were so amazing.
Whitebeam Class were very excited to be involved in an international project with a school in India. The children carefully cut out leaves, decorated them with lots of colour and wrote all about themselves on the back. We recently received the leaves that the children from India created and Whitebeam loved listening to all the information about the children, learning lots about their culture and school life. See above.
Year 3 enjoyed an afternoon of tennis with coach, Luke. They learnt new skills and had lots of fun. See above.
Making models from recyclable materials
During the day, the children crafted and made models out the different materials. They used tissue paper to cover them and just look at the fantastic results.
Willow Class was delighted to celebrate with Medal Competition winner Amber as she received her award at Yeovilton Air Station. Well done Amber!
To understand what Christians learn from the Creation story
During our RE lesson, we discussed what ‘Creation’ was. We went outside and looked at the world around us. Using our artist’s palette, we collected items from nature that gave us the ‘WOW’ factor. Back in class, we talked about why we thought they were so amazing.
It’s science week! This week in Year 3 we have been writing secret messages using lemon juice ink and by ironing them, the messages were revealed! Whitebeam decided that instead of throwing away their used lemons, they made lemon juice to drink. Some of the class weren’t impressed by the taste! See above.
Willow Class had lots of fun using science to write secret messages to each other using lemon juice which dries invisible. We then ironed the messages to reveal what they said. See below.
Due to the horrible weather we had to stay in at lunchtime but this didn’t stop Whitebeam from learning something new! Today they have been finger knitting in the classroom! See above.
In Whitebeam this week we have been celebrating Mardi Gras which is a carnival held in some countries on Shrove Tuesday. The children made Mardi Gras masks and decorated them with bright colours, sequins and feathers.
In Year 3 this week we have been learning about the different parts of a flower and their functions. Working in groups, the children dissected a daffodil to identify the different parts of the flower. See above.
Art Day with Mr Plumbley
Willow class had a fantastic day with Mr Plumbley creating Roman mosaics. The children learnt about how they were used in Roman homes and the baths.
They look brilliant! See above.
Complaint Letter Writing
As a part of our English curriculum, Willow class wrote letters of complaint about a bad experience they had had with some food from Tesco. Their letters were sent and Miss Mills, a manager at Tesco, came into school as she was so impressed with their writing. The class were delighted to receive a lolly each and George’s letter impressed her so much that he received a box of Lego.
Well done George! See picture above.
Willow Class thoroughly enjoyed their visit from the Dog’s Trust.
We learnt all about what dogs need to be healthy and how to be careful dog owners.
Year 3 had a fantastic day at the Roman Baths. We studied different artefacts from the past, made mosaics and dressed in tunics and togas. We even dressed up Mr Frisby! After lunch, we toured around the baths and learnt about the different amenities there and even spoke to a real Roman.
All had a great day!
During English this week, Willow class have been learning all about powerful adjectives and how they are effective in writing descriptions. We had to design our own chocolate bar so we tried some chocolate to help! We then used this work to create our own variety of chocolate to sell and describe it to each other. We wrote some fantastic pieces!
On Friday, Mrs Wright and Rhyan made some for us to eat! They were yummy! We even let George from year 4 have one! See above.
