WORLD BOOK DAY 2025

On Thursday 6th March, our school was filled with excitement as children and staff came dressed as their favourite book characters or in cosy pyjamas to celebrate the magic of reading and bedtime stories. From princesses and the Big Bad Wolf to Gangsta Granny, Billionaire Boy, Dr. Seuss characters, Dorothy and even a Very Hungry Caterpillar, the incredible effort and creativity that went into the costumes made the day truly memorable.

In addition to the fantastic costumes, we also ran a class competition where each classroom door was transformed into a book cover. The children played a key role in creating these vibrant displays, turning the school into a colourful celebration of reading. After much deliberation, the judges crowned Hazel Class in Year 5 as the KS2 winners and Cedar Class in Year 2 as the KS1 winners. As a reward for their hard work, the winning classes received bookmarks and vouchers to spend on new books for their classrooms.

To make the event even more special, we also marked National Careers Week alongside World Book Day. We were delighted to welcome visitors from local company Branston Ltd, who came into school to talk about their careers and share a book with the children. Supertato was a particularly popular choice, and after a fun and engaging session, we can now proudly say we are all potato experts! It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to see the connection between reading and the world of work, inspiring them to dream big about their own futures.

The celebrations continued throughout the week with the Scholastic Book Fair, where children had the opportunity to use their World Book Day £1 tokens. With a day full of book-themed activities and a school bursting with creativity and enthusiasm, it was a wonderful celebration of stories, imagination, and the joy of reading!

Children in Need - November 2024

Remembrance Service At Yeovilton

On the 11th of November, members of the Invincibles club attended a meaningful Remembrance Service at Yeovilton Air Base. It was a special moment as two of our children laid a wreath to honor the brave men and women who have served our country. We are especially grateful to the parents in our school community who serve to protect and keep us safe. Thank you for your courage and dedication.

KS2 Parliament Talk with Baroness Garden of Frognal

KS2 had the exciting opportunity to join a Teams meeting with Baroness Garden of Frognal. They asked insightful questions and learned a great deal from her. She spoke about her role in introducing the Pupil Premium into schools, her involvement in the Rwanda debate, and her upcoming work on the assisted dying debate. Baroness Garden also explained the differences between the House of Lords and the House of Commons, highlighting the biggest issues facing the UK today: the Health Service and Education. She encouraged young people to engage in politics, advising them to first develop valuable skills.

Art Studio Opening - 30th September 2024

As the flagship school of the trust, we strive to provide the ultimate provision for our children and as such, we decided the next goal for Preston would be to achieve Arts Mark Status for our school. When we began our Arts Mark journey, we had a vision of providing a dedicated space for Art and Design.

We would like to acknowledge the people who donated their time, skills, and expertise. Whether you helped with the planning, construction, decorating, or any of the other countless tasks, your contributions have been invaluable. This studio truly reflects the collective effort of our wonderful community.

We would like to say a special shout out to Joe from the organisation Able 2 Achieve. Joe and his wonderful team of adult learners have created the beautiful mosaic sign for our studio. Thank you to Joe and your team for providing time, care and for being a wealth of knowledge about community contacts.

Leonardo’s as part of their commitment outreach service, very generously donated the  stainless steel sinks needed for the job and allowed us to rummage around their disposal unit looking for things we could use or re-purpose for the space. Thank you to Suze and her team for overseeing our scavenging. Morrisons and Tesco donated cake for the opening and the lovely PTA helped with refreshments. And lastly, a huge  thank you to Watertite for transforming the exhausted plumbing into a functioning cleaning area.

Year 3/4 Football Tournament

Mrs Chambers took a group of Year 3/4 children to Bucklers Mead for a football tournament against 11 other primary schools. They did so well, drawing 1 game and winning 3! We are very proud of you all!

Mrs Cashmore's Summer Writing Challenge

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who took part in Mrs. Cashmore's Summer Writing Challenge. The quality of the entries was truly exceptional, with each piece showcasing a high level of creativity, thoughtfulness, and impressive writing skills. It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm for storytelling, and every participant should be proud of their hard work and effort. I had a very difficult time selecting the winners, as all the entries were so strong. After much deliberation, I am pleased to announce the winners: congratulations to Ferne, Arianna, and Lucy for their outstanding contributions! Your stories and poems were captivating, and I look forward to seeing more great writing in the future.
