  • A Week of Discovery

    Published 22/01/26

We’ve had a very busy and exciting week in Hickory class, full of learning and creativity.

In Maths, we focused on converting metric measurements, building confidence in using different units. In English, we explored limericks and poetry, which the students really enjoyed. They had great fun experimenting with rhyme and rhythm and sharing their ideas.

In Geography, we learnt about rural India, discussing daily life, homes, and how it compares to our own experiences. This sparked lots of thoughtful conversations and curiosity. Our Science lesson was a real highlight this week! The children conducted a practical experiment by making Rice Krispie cakes to observe how chocolate changes state when it is heated and then cooled. This hands-on activity helped them clearly see reversible changes in action (and was very popular!).

We also began preparations for our class play, learning songs, discovering the story, and starting to build excitement for the performance. The children have been enthusiastic and are already showing great teamwork.

Well done to everyone for their hard work this week!

  • A Fantastic Week!

    Published 14/01/26

Year 4 have had a busy and exciting week packed full of fantastic learning across the curriculum!

In Maths, we have been exploring graphs, including bar graphs and tally charts. The children showed great confidence with these skills and impressed us with how clearly they could interpret and present data.

We also completed our first extended piece of writing this term, inspired by the story 'The Drum.' This powerful story focuses on kindness, helping others, and how our actions can impact our own lives. The students worked incredibly hard on their writing and produced some thoughtful and meaningful pieces.

In Geography, we continued our learning about India, focusing on the differences between rich and poor. The students wrote some beautiful diary entries that showed real empathy and understanding of life from different perspectives. In Science, we carried out a small practical investigation looking at changes of state, which the children really enjoyed and engaged with enthusiastically.

Finally, it was our first swimming session of the term! The children absolutely thrived in the pool, showing great confidence, enthusiasm and teamwork. Most importantly, they had lots of fun and are already looking forward to next week.

Well done, Hickory! What a brilliant week.

Welcome back! We have been so pleased with how well the children have settled into the spring term. They have returned with a fantastic attitude to learning and have quickly re-established classroom routines.

We have already begun exploring some exciting new topics. In Geography, we are learning about India, developing our understanding of its location, culture, and physical features. In Science, we have started our work on states of matter, where pupils are showing great curiosity and enthusiasm as they investigate solids, liquids, and gases.

As we look ahead to the rest of the term, we are also very excited to begin slowly getting started with our class play. This will be a lovely opportunity for the children to build confidence, teamwork, and creativity.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We’re really looking forward to a busy and enjoyable spring term ahead.
