One Class, One Poem

Hornbeam were inspired by a visiting poet as they took part in a creative workshop celebrating the beauty of nature through words.

Hornbeam had the wonderful opportunity to take part in an engaging poetry workshop led by a visiting poet from the Hot Poet company. During the hour-long session, the children explored how poetry can be used to capture thoughts, feelings and imagery inspired by the natural world.

Pupils were challenged to create three original lines of poetry focused on nature, carefully choosing vocabulary to paint vivid pictures in the reader’s mind. They experimented with descriptive language, rhythm and expression, building confidence in sharing their ideas aloud.

To conclude the workshop, the class worked collaboratively to weave their individual lines together, alongside a shared class chorus, to create one cohesive and meaningful poem. The final piece was a beautiful celebration of creativity, teamwork and the children’s growing confidence as young poets—an inspiring experience that truly brought their words to life.
