Hornbeam’s AI Adventure

Hornbeam marked Safer Internet Day by exploring the exciting world of AI and how to use it safely and responsibly.

Hornbeam took part in an engaging Safer Internet Day focused on understanding Artificial Intelligence and how it is used in our everyday lives. The children began the day by watching informative videos from BBC Bitesize, featuring Minecraft-themed content, which helped explain what AI is, how it works and why it is important to use it safely and responsibly online.

Through class discussions, pupils explored both the benefits of AI—such as helping with learning and problem-solving—as well as the potential risks if it is misused. They learnt about the importance of staying safe, protecting personal information and thinking critically about the content AI can create.

To finish our learning journey, the children took part in a creative design task where they imagined and designed their own AI. They thought carefully about its purpose, how it would help people and the rules it would need to follow to stay safe and trustworthy. It was fantastic to see such thoughtful, imaginative ideas, alongside a mature understanding of online safety—an important skill in today’s digital world.
