Toast, Talent and Top Effort – A Fantastic Start to Our Final Term!

Summer Term 1

What a fantastic start to the summer term it has been for Mulberry Class! The past few weeks have been packed with hard work, exciting opportunities and plenty of memorable moments.

This term is a particularly special one, as it marks the beginning of our Year 6 pupils’ final term at Preston C of E Primary School. While there will undoubtedly be many cherished memories to reflect upon, there is also so much to look forward to in the weeks ahead, including our end-of-year production, transition activities, celebrations and, of course, making the most of their final experiences as Preston pupils. We are determined to make this last term one to remember!

First and foremost, we would like to congratulate all of our Year 6 pupils for the incredible effort they showed during their SATs. The children approached the tests with determination, resilience and a positive attitude, working exceptionally hard both in school and at home. We are immensely proud of how they conducted themselves throughout the assessment period. Regardless of the outcomes, every child should feel proud of the commitment, maturity and perseverance they demonstrated.

Of course, no SATs season would be complete without our much-loved Breakfast Club! This year's attendance was higher than ever and it seems our Year 6 pupils worked up quite an appetite. In fact, more cereal and toast were consumed than in any previous year! We found ourselves making emergency top-ups of milk, bread and Coco Pops to keep everyone fuelled and ready for the day ahead. A huge thank you to all the staff who helped make Breakfast Club such a success.

Excitement has also been building around our Year 6 production of Orphan Annie. Auditions were hugely successful, with a record number of children bravely stepping forward to perform. We would like to congratulate everyone who auditioned. We know just how challenging it can be to stand up and perform in front of your peers and every child who took part should be incredibly proud of themselves.

While the main roles have now been allocated, we want to reassure families that we have adapted the script to ensure that every child who would like a speaking part will have one. Rehearsals are already underway and we are delighted by the enthusiasm, confidence and talent being shown. The singing has been particularly impressive; we cannot wait to see the production continue to take shape over the coming weeks.

Our Year 6 pupils have also continued to be excellent role models within the school community. During the Global Games event, they supported our Year 3 children with great maturity and kindness, acting as fantastic ambassadors for the school. Their encouragement, teamwork and supportive spirit were wonderful to see and reflected the Christian values we strive to promote every day.

Another highlight of the term was the opportunity for the children to take part in a special workshop with Resolution Interiors where they became designers for the day. The pupils embraced the challenge with creativity, imagination and enthusiasm, producing some fantastic ideas and thoroughly enjoying the experience. Thank you Resolution Interiors!

As we look ahead to Summer Term 2, there is still so much to enjoy and celebrate. From continuing rehearsals for Orphan Annie to transition events and end-of-year activities, the children have a busy and exciting few weeks ahead. We know they will approach every opportunity with the same enthusiasm, determination and sense of community that they have shown throughout their time at Preston C of E.

Well done, Mulberry Class – you continue to make us proud every day and we look forward to making many more special memories together during your final weeks at Preston.
