  • Celebrating Mitzvah Day

Year 5 have been learning about Mitzvah Day, a Jewish celebration that encourages people to carry out good deeds, known as Mitzvot.

These acts of kindness can include helping others, supporting charities, caring for the community, or giving time to volunteer. The children explored how Mitzvah Day teaches the values of kindness, empathy and working together to make a positive difference.

To link this learning to our own responsibilities, Year 5 reflected on how we can look after the environment both in school and at home. The children each created an environmental pledge, choosing a personal action they could take to help protect our planet. Their ideas included reducing waste, recycling properly, turning off lights, reusing materials and keeping our school grounds tidy.

The pledges have been written on stars and clouds and will form part of our Year 5 Eco Display. Through this activity, the children demonstrated that small, thoughtful actions can make a big difference—just as the good deeds encouraged on Mitzvah Day remind us.
