Today we carried out an experiment to show how the digestive system works. We used tights to represent the intestines, banana, digestive biscuits as the food, and orange juice as the stomach acid. First, we mashed the food to show how the stomach breaks it down. Then we squeezed it through the tights to show how nutrients are absorbed as food moves through the intestines. Finally, we saw what is left at the end of the process! This helped us understand how our bodies digest food from start to finish.
