  • En Garde! Hornbeam Takes on Fencing

Year 5 had an exciting opportunity to step into the world of sport as they took part in a specialist fencing workshop.

Year 5 thoroughly enjoyed a unique and engaging fencing workshop, where they were introduced to the fundamentals of this fast-paced Olympic sport. Throughout the session, the children learnt basic fencing skills, including correct stance, grip and footwork, as well as how to safely use the equipment. They practised moving forwards and backwards with control, developing their balance, coordination and agility.

As their confidence grew, pupils had the chance to apply their new skills in paired activities, demonstrating focus, respect and excellent sportsmanship. The workshop not only built physical skills but also encouraged resilience, discipline and quick decision-making. It was fantastic to see the children embrace such a different sport with enthusiasm and determination—we may even have some future fencing champions in Year 5!
