  • Hot-Poet Workshop

    A climate-focused poetry jam.

Hazel had a lovely time taking part in a poetry workshop led by a visiting poet from the Hot Poet company. As part of their Hot Poets Launch: Ignite education programme, the session combined poetry, science and climate awareness, encouraging the children to think creatively about the world around them.

During the workshop, the children explored how poetry can be used to capture thoughts, feelings and imagery inspired by nature and the environment. They were challenged to create three original lines of poetry, carefully choosing vocabulary to paint vivid pictures for the reader. The session also placed a strong focus on speaking and listening, and it was great to see the children growing in confidence as they shared their ideas aloud.

To finish, the class worked together to combine their individual lines with a shared chorus, creating one final poem as a class. The end result was a thoughtful and imaginative piece that reflected both their creativity and their understanding of the natural world. It was a fantastic opportunity to experience how poetry can be used to explore important themes in a fun, engaging and meaningful way.
