  • 'Responsibility and Consequences' PCOS workshop

    An informative afternoon.

During a recent visit to Year 5, Police Community Officers Fran and John spoke to the children about responsibility and consequences in an engaging and age-appropriate way. They explained the difference between rules and laws, helping pupils understand that while rules can change depending on where you are, laws apply to everyone and must be followed. The officers also discussed important age limits, including that you must be 17 to drive, 18 to buy cigarettes, vapes, alcohol, fireworks, tattoos, and lottery tickets, and 16 to vote in some elections (though 18 for UK general elections). They highlighted the responsibilities involved in purchasing pets and caring for them properly. A key message was that the age of criminal responsibility in England is 10, meaning police can become involved from that age if laws are broken. It was an insightful session, and it was reassuring to see that many pupils were already well-informed about rules and laws through previous PSHE lessons and extracurricular experiences.
