Sport Relief 2020
In support of Sports Relief this year, every pupil ran or rode a bike around the playground several times before taking part in a tug of war competition against their peers. This turned into a competition to see who could have the most fun as opposed to who was the strongest! Thank you to everyone who generously donated to this worthwhile cause.
Rocktopus
We were very lucky to welcome ‘Rocktopus’ to the school this week. They are a rock band aimed at making songs with children of all ages. Our reception children really enjoyed making a brand new rock song all about our amazing school! Rock on!

Mardi Gras 2020
Investigating Sounds
Year 4 have been experimenting with how sound travels. The children explored different sound stations, discovering how sound travels in vibrations, from a source and into our ears. Unsurprisingly, it was an extremely noisy lesson but an enjoyable one none the less.
Pottery Workshop
Year 5 have recently been visited by Mr Colin Bell, a local potter. Mr Bell demonstrated to the children a variety of techniques to create their own pottery including how to cut, sculpt and build using the clay. The children practised eventually creating their own mythical creatures. During the afternoon, the children were able to glaze their monsters ready to go into the kiln.
Pancake Day
For Shrove Tuesday, Year 2 have been learning all about the religious significance of the day. We understand why pancakes are eaten and have all had a go at making and tasting some pancakes. We also learnt that it is traditional to have pancake races. Unfortunately, the wet weather stopped us from racing outside so we had a pancake tossing competition instead!
Noah's Ark Zoo Farm
On a cloudy January day, pupils from Year 1 visited Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm to develop their understanding of animals and their habitats. The visit included a bumpy tractor and trailer ride around the surrounding farmland where the children had the opportunity to see one of the elephants up close.
Gingerbread House Art Day
In preparation for our upcoming play, Whitebeam had a fantastic art day with Mr Plumbley. The children each made a number of parts for our gingerbread house and worked really hard to create the final look.
Rangoli Art
This term, pupils in Year 4 have been learning all about India. As well as having the opportunity to explore a variety of different parts of Indian culture, pupils in Hickory and Hawthorn class have been experimenting with variety of Indian art techniques.
Chinese New Year
Reception have been hard at work making a brand new dragon head for the Chinese New Year display.
First Aid Workshops
Pupils in Upper Key Stage 2 have been learning the life saving skills of CPR and First Aid. After a fantastic assembly, pupils were able to put their skills to the test, understanding the correct techniques as well as what to do in a range of other emergency scenarios.
Christmas Pantomime

Christmas Lunch
Pupils had the opportunity to have a Christmas lunch last week, cooked by our onsite caterers. All pupils across the school received a cracker with their lunch and were served by festively-dressed elves!
Helicopter Surprise
On a very wet and windy December day, the children were treated to a surprise visit from Santa’s elves who arrived at the school in a helicopter amidst the blustery showers.
Christmas Cooking
As part of our Design Technology curriculum, Year 6 prepared their own Christmas lunches. These preparations included: peeling carrots and potatoes, mixing the stuffing, roasting it all and of course, making the gravy!
Carol Concert
This term, the KS2 choir has been rehearsing in preparation for their Christmas concerts. After lots of hard work and practice, the pupils performed two concerts at St John's Church.
Key Stage 1 Nativities
All pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 have been very busy preparing for this year's Nativity Plays. We have had lots of lines and new songs to learn and we have all had great fun doing so. We hope that you all enjoyed our performances.
Christingle
As part of our R.E. lesson, Year 5 made their very own Christingles, learning about the symbolism of each part of the Christingle.
Nothe Fort
Year 6 enjoyed a fantastic trip to Nothe Fort recently, learning all about the local and national impact of the Second World War and more specifically, the Blitz.
Children In Need
Across the school, the pupils had a surprise visitor arriving to their classrooms for Children in Need.
Ribbon Cross
A whole school activity took place this term, to create a new cross to hang in our new school hall. Every child tied a piece of colourful ribbon to the original cross and then said a prayer for the school community.
Bread Making
Year 1 have been learning about ‘The Little Red Hen’ story. To help with our understanding of the story, we helped each other to make some bread.
Exploring Science - Heart Dissection
Every year our Year 6 pupils have the opportunity to dissect a pig’s heart, as part of their science unit about human biology, something that some pupils do not have the chance to do until GCSE level!
Glastonbury Abbey
Year 4 visited Glastonbury Abbey to enhance their learning of Tudors. Despite the cold weather, they had a fantastic time exploring the ruins of the abbey and picking various herbs and vegetables used during the 16th century.
History Re-enactments
Year 3 have been learning about the rebellion of the Celts against the Romans in History. The children took on the roles of Venelli, Rastus, Milo, Tiber, Drest and Queen Boudicca to reenact the battle between the Icini tribe and the Romans.
Gore Farm Visit
Year 6 had a fantastic experience at Gore Farm, Trent, observing parts of a working farm and taking in the beautiful surroundings over Mudford village.
Healthy Futures
Year 5 and Year 2 had the pleasure of Mr Kennard for a 6 week Healthy Futures Programme where the children learned about healthy behaviours like brushing their teeth, attitudes to mental health and emotions, as well as participating in a physical bleep test.
Outdoor Learning in Autumn Term
Enjoying the final summery days before winter, the pupils in Reception and Year 1 have been enjoying some outdoor learning.
Alpaca Visit
Today pupils had the pleasure of meeting four beautiful alpacas. Pupils learnt the difference between llamas and alpacas and some children were able to reach the alpacas to give them a pet and feed.
