Things are looking up!

To kick off the first week of our brand new term, we finished our science unit of light with a practical investigation making and testing periscopes. The children learned all about how placing mirrors at 45-degree angles at each end of the periscope reflects to create a 90-degree angle, causing the horizontal trajectory of the light to begin travelling vertically. The children then had lots of fun testing their periscopes after they had worked hard building them.

5 Ways to Well-being

As part of Children's Mental Health Week, Year 6 wrote, filmed and shared their own mental well-being videos, promoting Mind's 5 Ways to Well-being project. This helped them think about all of the different ways that they could improve their own (and their peers') mental health. This also came with discussions on how to be the best, kindest friends possible.

Mulberry Music

Lately in music, the children have been learning all about different methods and processes for composition. To help them record their excellent compositions, the children having been working hard to understand formal written notation, both for pitch and for rhythm. Using these skills, they were then able to compose their own piece of music - following a strict criteria - and then record their compositions fully.

Nothe Fort, Here We Come!

This week, the children had the fantastic opportunity to put all of their WWII history knowledge from last term to the test during our exciting trip to Nothe Fort. The children completed workshops in Kitchen/Laundry; Money and Shops; and Air Raid Precautions. As well as this, the children had the opportunity to practise their 1940s manners: it was a lot to remember and get used to but they did a brilliant job in the end!

Easter Freeze frames

To consolidate their understanding of the different stages of the Easter Story (Palm Sunday, Anointing, Arrest, Crucifixion, and Resurrection), the children created freeze frames displaying the different scenes. They all played a different character and were asked about their feelings and motivations in relation to their story.

World Religion Day

To celebrate World Religion Day, the children made some fantastic posters about Buddhism. The children created excellent posters that were as eye-catching as they were informative!

Earlier in the week, we also had a visit from a local expert on Judaism who came to talk to us about the Holocaust and its lasting impact.

Happy New Year and Welcome back Mulberry Class!

I hope you are looking forward to a busy term ahead 😊.
