Welcome Back!

Art - Charcoal Animals

In Art, we experimented with using charcoal. First, we rubbed crushed charcoal onto our paper to create the background. Once this was complete, we drew an owl onto the paper. We kept our artwork in the style of prehistoric art using simple, bold lines.

Art - Prehistoric Palette

Today, we explored how natural product produce pigments to make different colours. We used turmeric, cumin, paprika and berries to create different paints.

Today, we had our Easter service. The children did a fantastic job sharing the Easter story and the singing was wonderful!

Computing - Branching Databases

Today, we used j2e to create our own branching databases. We practised using yes or no questions to create our database. Then, we tested them out with our partners.

Computing - Branching Databases

This half term, our computing topic is Branching Databases. We began our topic today by looking at the types of questions you can include in a branching database. Then, we played a game where our partner had to guess what object we were thinking of but they could only ask yes or no questions.

Yeovil Mayor's Visit

Yeovil Mayor, Andy Kendall, visited to meet with Year 3 who asked him lots of questions to find out about life as the Mayor.  The children also shared their work and sang "Shine, Jesus, Shine" which he loved!  The School Council then enjoyed a tea party with Andy and took the opportunity to ask their own questions about his role.

Safer Internet Day

To celebrate Safer Internet Day, we took part in a BBC Live Lesson. The theme this year is 'Scams'. We completed activities where we had to spot potential scams and we created our own safe passwords.

Collective Worship - Compassion

Today, Hawthorn Class taught us about compassion. They shared the story of the Good Samaritan and then we discussed the different ways we could show someone compassion. A big well done to all the children!

Today, we made Christmas cards for the residents at West Abbey. Elsie, Tilla and Reggie went to deliver them.

Art - Texture

Today, we had an exciting outdoor art session where we explored our surroundings to gather texture rubbings from various surfaces.

Computing - Animation

Today, we explored animation by working in pairs or small groups to create our own short films. We designed unique backgrounds and a few characters to bring our stories to life. Using the Stop Motion app, we carefully captures each frame to animate our scenes.

Today, we were lucky enough to be joined by Fatima for Collective Worship. She talked to us about the nativity. Then, we discussed how we can all be ‘stars’.

Geography - Land Use

Today, we looked at land use in the UK. We researched photos of Yeovil from past and present day. It was interesting to see the changes in how the land is used. We discovered there used to be a hotel where The Entertainer is now!

Science - Magnet strength

This week, we were discussing the strength of a magnet. We completed an experiment to investigate which magnet was the strongest. To make it a fair test, we kept the same paper clip each time and only changed the type of magnet.

Celebration Assembly

Today, we were joined by Mr Simon for assembly. He came to tell us about how much money we raised for School in a Bag. He then presented the winners with some lovely prizes. A huge well done to all of the children for taking part and raising a massive £5293.36. A special well done to Arlo and Harvey for raising the most money in LKS2 and the whole school!

Science - Friction

Today, we learnt about how friction affects motion. We discovered that rough, bumpy surfaces cause more friction and smooth surfaces cause less.

A big thank you for all the generous donations to Children in Need. In Willow Class, we have had a busy morning designing Pudsey T-shirts, designing bandanas and decorating biscuits. Everyone looked fantastic in their spots or Pudsey outfits!

Music

Today, we finished our music topic by practising finding the rhythm of songs. We started by clapping to the beat and then added instruments. We finished our lesson with some fantastic singing.

Stone Age Day

We have had a fantastic day celebrating Stone Age Day today! We dressed up as cave people, tried cave painting, cooked a delicious Stone Age dessert and completed a Stone Age themed scavenger hunt!

Today, we learnt to say different family members in French. We played games to consolidate our learning.

Collective Worship

Today, we read the parable of Noah’s Ark. we discussed the themes of hope, trust and patience. We then reflected on times in our own lives when we have had to be patient. We wrote an idea down each and put them together to form a tree. Then, we discussed how it took time for the tree to grow as each of us added a leaf and that we needed to have patience to see the finished piece.

Today, we made models of our hands to demonstrate how our muscles work. We used straws to act as tendons to show how our muscles are attached to our bones.
