Pine Class tried to build a snowman but our hands were so cold that our snowman ended up very tiny!!

Year 1 Transparency

The children in Year 1 have had a wonderful time learning about transparent and opaque.  We made some cool glasses, using a range of transparent film for the lenses and the children loved observing objects in our classroom through their coloured film.

We have had a flipping good time in Year 1, learning about Shrove Tuesday, Lent and Easter.  The children practised their skills in tossing pancakes and some of us were even able to catch the pancake as well!!

Trip to Noah's Ark Zoo Farm

On a cold day in January we were lucky enough to visit Noah's Ark Zoo Farm.  The purpose of our trip was to learn about animals and their habitats.  We were lucky enough to see most of the animals up close, especially as they were being fed.  We saw an elephant shake a barrel suspended from the ceiling to get pieces of carrots out, saw a rhino up close as it ate some hay, saw a very hungry tiger up close through a glass window and the highlight had to be watching the comical meercats being fed by a zookeeper.  All of the children behaved impeccably and enjoyed themselves immensely.

For more photos from our trip please visit the Gallery.

Easter Service

Pupils from Year 1 enjoyed a short walk to The Abbey Manor Community Centre on Thursday (22nd March) for the Key Stage 1 Easter Service.  Parents were invited to join pupils and staff to enjoy a collective worship filled with song and readings.  Pupils wore Easter hats and bonnets that they had made previously and they all looked fantastic!  A big thank you to all who attended and to Rev David Keen for leading the event.

Year 1 Yoga

Pupils in Year 1 are lucky enough to take part in Yoga sessions every week.  The sessions cover stretching, breathing   techniques and relaxation exercises.  Every week we learn a new pose, often called animal related names, e.g. dog, cat & lion.  Lucy and Siobhan from Pine Class demonstrate the ‘Rainbow’ pose in the photograph.

Year 1 Bird Feeders

Year 1 have been thinking about how we can help the animals in our gardens.  We worked together in our outdoor learning lesson to make bird feeders; using sticky syrup and bird seed.  We got extremely messy but we were pleased to see that the hungry birds ate the seed really quickly.

Snowmen

Year 1 have had a fantastic time using dowels and glue to join and decorate our happy snowmen, which are now waiting by the school gate to welcome us as we arrive in the mornings!

Luckily on 2nd March 2018 our snowmen actually got to see some real snow!!
