Preston Primary School has been very lucky to receive some handmade bird boxes from Graham Pritchard and his Father-in-law Bill. Each class selected a child to assist with putting up the bird boxes, and each class now has an individual bird box to monitor. The children are fortunate as this will allow them to observe nesting birds up close.
We look forward to hopefully welcoming chicks onto the school grounds shortly.
This week in maths, we have explored and compared different heights. Part of our exploration included ordering our class from tallest to shortest. The children enjoyed working out who they were taller and shorter than, which allowed them to use the new mathematical language we had learnt.
Happy New Year!
Welcome back to the Spring term! We hope that the children and their families had a happy and restful break. We look forward to the rest of the school year and the exciting opportunities planned for the Spring and Summer terms.
A Visit from Father Christmas
On the last day of term the children were very lucky to receive a visitor from The North Pole. All the children were delighted (and very excited!) to see Father Christmas, as he delivered a present to every class. A wonderful way for Reception to finish their first term at Preston Primary School!
A Visit From the Magician!
The children in Reception were privileged to have a visit from Malcolm the Magician. He wowed and astounded the children with lots of Christmas themed magic tricks and even invited some children up to help him! The children thoroughly enjoyed the show and loved celebrating the end of term in a magical way.
Reception would like to thank our wonderful PTA for arranging and paying for us all to go and watch 'Mother Goose' at The Octagon. The PTA work very hard all year to allow the children wonderful experiences such as the Pantomime, and we are very grateful. The children were engaged by the theatre from the moment we walked in and they all thoroughly enjoyed the audience participation! The children sat beautifully for the entire show, and we are very proud of them all. Well Done Reception.
Reception wowed the audiences this week with their fantastic version of the nativity ‘Shine Star, Shine!’. The children thoroughly enjoyed the catchy songs and we were very proud of how well they sang them. We would like to thank the parents for their beautiful costumes and supporting their children with their lines. In our eyes all of the children are stars!
Well done Reception!
Today we were very lucky to have a visit from Animals2uSouthWest. The lovely Marie showed the children lots of animals and explained the habitat and diet for each one. Everyone got to stroke or hold each of the animals and we discussed how the bearded dragon Rex was spikey and that the mice were very soft!
Reception would like to thank our wonderful PTA for providing such a lovely experience!
The children in Reception have been practicing really hard for their nativity. We are delighted with their beautiful singing and would like to thank parents for taking the time to help their child learn their lines.
We cannot wait for you to see their production of ‘Shine Star, Shine!’. We know that you will be as impressed as we are!
A few sneak preview pictures of the show.
Children in Need
Today the children celebrated Children in Need, and we thought they all looked wonderful! We discussed why we celebrate children in need and what the children could do to help those who are not as fortunate as they are. There were lots of lovely suggestions to raise money such as danceathons and cake sales.
We raised a total of £464.30 for the charity.
Thank you for all of your kind donations!
The Reception classes joined in with Key Stage 1 Remembrance day assembly outside. We discussed why we wear poppies and some children told us about their own families' experiences and stories. The children were very respectful and adhered to the two minute silence. Well Done Reception!
Outdoor Learning Day
Our Reception classes thoroughly enjoyed participating in outdoor learning day. We took the children on a welly walk around the school grounds to look for signs of Autumn. We were very impressed with the children's knowledge of nature and seasonal changes. The children were rewarded with milk and a muffin.
Black History Month
Black History Month provides great opportunities to highlight key moments in Black British history. It is important to celebrate the contributions of everyone to our society and support the multiculturalism and diversity that helps shape our communities.
In reception we have discussed influential people in black history, with a particular focus on people from the UK.
Reception were extremely lucky to have the opportunity to experience a forest school lesson last week.
The children had the opportunity to take part in lots of different forest school activities such as making bird feeders, decorating forest elves, creating stick wands and participating in a nature hunt.
The children had a wonderful time with Mrs Chislett!
The Little Red Hen
This week we have been reading and writing about The Little Red Hen. The children have thoroughly enjoyed making and then tasting their own sandwiches. We were very impressed with their sandwich making skills.
On Friday the children celebrated Hello Yellow Day, to raise awareness about mental health. We discussed how we can look after our friends and help to keep them happy. We read the book 'Have you filled a bucket today?' and the children gave us wonderful examples of how they could fill each others buckets with kindness. We enjoyed many yellow crafts including wonderful copies of Van Gogh's Sunflowers.
We had a fantastic Yellow Day!
Thank you Miss Roy for letting the Reception children take part in the whole school art project. The handprint covered canvas includes every child and adult in the school, and will soon be on display in school for all to see.
Welcome to Oak Class
All of the children have settled into school life well, and look smart in their new uniforms. We have enjoyed watching the children explore their new classroom, conservatory and outdoor area, whilst getting to know their new classmates.
The first few weeks has been full of plenty of fun, and lots learning. Here are a few photos of the things that we have been doing.
