Happy New Year everyone! Pear Class have had a fantastic first week back and are ready to see what Spring Term has to offer.
Pear Class had a wonderful last day of term with all of their friends. The children enjoyed the ‘Elfie’ booth, where they could make themselves into an elf, and also enjoyed playing with the toys that Father Christmas had brought in earlier in the week. We hope you all have a fantastic holiday and enjoy the rest.
In the last week of term Pear Class were very creative and drew not only the Grinch’s hand but also Father Christmas himself. Their art work was amazing.
The children in Key Stage 1 went on a visit to St James’ Church this week to share the Christmas story. We heard Year 2 sing a song from their Nativity and also shared a song from ours. Thank you Reverend David for having us.
A huge thank you to the PTA for giving us the amazing experience of attending the local Pantomime and for providing sweets for the interval. Pear Class loved every second of Jack and the Beanstalk.
Pear Class were very excited to make their own snowmen this week. They all painted their own snowmen and then got the opportunity to pick the hat and scarf they wanted for their snowmen.
We were very lucky to have a visit from Father Christmas and an elf in a helicopter. The children loved seeing the helicopter land and they had the opportunity to give their letters to Father Christmas himself.
This half term Pear Class have been busy making their very own puppets. The children were extremely creative, working independently to design and make their own puppets. We were hugely impressed with the final puppets made.
A huge well done to the whole of Year 1 who went out together to complete their sponsored run. The children demonstrated great determination and enthusiasm, which made us very proud. We would like the thank everyone who has sponsored the children, your money will be going to a great cause, A School in a Bag.
Pear Class couldn’t resist going outside for a few minutes to experience the snow. We never know how long it will be until we experience it again.
Pear Class were extremely lucky to have a visit from Alex who works at the RSPCA. She taught us all about what to do if animals are poorly and how to care for them ourselves. We then learnt all about hedgehogs, including where they live and what they eat and drink. The children then got creative and made their own hedgehogs, using clay and spaghetti.
To celebrate Children in Need, we made and decorated our own Pudsey biscuits. Throughout the week we learnt about the charity Children in Need and why we wear non-school uniform.
Mrs Hodgson tasked Year 1 with making a new Welcome Sign for the Welcome Garden as you come into our school. Pear Class had a fantastic time using the paints to decorate the letters and the posts. We hope you enjoy looking at the new signs on your way into our school.
This week to celebrate Remembrance Day Pear Class joined the rest of the school to observe the 2 minute silence. As a class we discussed why we take part in this silence. We also learnt about the importance of poppies and made our own.
A huge thank you to Kerri Hill for coming in during Inter Faith Week to teach us how to do a Jewish Celebration Dance. Pear Class thoroughly enjoyed the session and performed the dance excellently!
Pear Class got creative on the iPads in our first week back from half term. After discussing the firework shows that we had all seen, the children made their very own firework displays on the iPads.
This week we developed our understanding of patterns using different resources found in the classroom. After the children made their own patterns they then swapped with a friend who continued to develop their pattern further.
To celebrate October being Black History Month we learnt all about Betty Campbell, the first black headteacher in Wales. We also created a piece of art using our mark making skills.
This week we invited our parents to come into school to help us make masks. Darrell Wakelam challenged us with making farm yard animal masks. The children and adults got creative, cutting and shaping cardboard to make different animal features. Some of us were very lucky to have our parents or family members helping us and we are very grateful for their help with their own children and also the other children sat near them. We can’t wait for everyone to see our masks displayed In the corridor!
On Friday we all came to school dressed in yellow to celebrate Mental Health Day. We spoke about the importance of friendships and what we do with our friends that make us happy. We had a lovely day and enjoyed putting our mental health first.
Pear Class continued to develop their Art skills when drawing and decorating a hedgehog. They all did extremely well, please enjoy a few examples of their great work.
This week we celebrated National Poetry Day in different ways. We enjoyed Mrs Cashmore’s challenge of writing a class acrostic poem. After writing our poem, we looked at another poem about leaves, which we had to learn and then we recorded ourselves reciting it. Then to continue our fun, we all went outside to explore Autumnal leaves.
This week we celebrated our Harvest Festival. The children sang beautifully and a huge well done to the children who read their own prayers. Thank you to Rev. Keen for comimg in to lead our worship.
This week in Computing Pear Class were tasked to use a keyboard. Using the keyboard the children had to write their own names and then had to write their own sentences. Everyone enjoyed being creative when using the iPads and had a great time exploring the keyboard.
In Maths this week we were learning about measurement. Each child picked a leaf from the playground and then explored the classroom to find a object which was longer than their leaf and another which was shorter. Later in the week each child measured and recorded theie height.
In Art this week we continued to explore mark making by each drawing our own tree. Here are a few of the trees that Pear Class drew.
In English this week we went on a bear hunt! The children found footprints in the class which led us on an adventure around the school. After following the footprints we found a big, brown, fluffy bear sleeping in a tree!
We were very lucky this week to have a visit from Owl Obsession who brought in their owls. We met a variety of owls learning their names, where they are from and other fun owl facts. We even managed to feel their feathers! Thank you to the PTA for organising this visit.
The children were creative this week in Art. They showed off their artistic skills by drawing The Crocodile from The Enormous Crocodile. The children all drew their own crocodile, which you can see in the photos, focussing on their attention to detail, before decorating their crocodiles using different media.
This week we learnt all about our five senses. The children enjoyed exploring and testing their senses at different sensory stations before exploring their senses further in the sensory garden.
In Mathematics this week we learnt how to use a number line. To do this we played a game against our friends, rolling a dice and moving our counter accordingly. It was a fun way to consolidate our knowledge of addition and subtraction.
For our first computing lesson of the year, we took the iPads outside to explore our school. The children opened the camera app to take their own photos of the school grounds. Here are some of the great photos that Pear Class took.
We have had a fantastic start to the year this week in Pear Class. All of the children came into school looking smart, with huge smiles ready to see what Year 1 has to offer. We heard all about their amazing Summer holidays and all of the different activities the children got up to.
We are looking forward to the upcoming year and all of the new experiences this may bring.
