Stay safe and stay smiling!

Home Schooling Week 2

Welcome to week 2 of learning at home.  Hopefully you still have some written work to complete and we can see that everyone has some MyMaths to finish, so keep going with these activities please.

Remember, this week is our last week before the Easter holidays so in school, we would be learning about the Easter story.  Why not get out your children’s Bible and share the story of Palm Sunday, The Last Supper, Good Friday And Easter Sunday.  You may like to make your own book to retell the story, don’t forget some beautiful pictures too.

Easter activities this week might include; making an Easter bonnet (try using a recycled cereal box if you don’t have any card), maybe an Easter hunt in the garden (ask an adult to hide some keywords for you to find and spell or some numbers that add together to make 20!) or maybe make an Easter card for someone special.

Don’t forget to read as much as you can too!
Take care, look after yourselves and keep helping those wonderful people in your home.

We hope to see your smiling faces soon.

 😁😎🤩

Home Schooling

Hello,

How is everything going? We hope everyone is finding out that teaching is an amazing job!

Hopefully the Rapunzel or Room on the Broom work is coming on well and you are enjoying the maths and phonics homework. Thank you to those who have completed some of the MyMaths tasks and well done we can see that you are getting some really high scores - you have some good teachers at home too!

Remember that although the written work is fun, there are many ways to learn.  Keep fit and healthy by helping with the jobs around the home.

Sit down and read a book; remember to use different voices for the characters and make predictions about what might happen.

Practise those spellings that you always get wrong by writing them out and playing games with them.

Practise your numbers; can you write the numbers 0 to 30 with all digits the right way around?

Have fun and try to make the most of this opportunity.  Although we are unsure of what will happen and we are adapting to a different way of life, we are together with our family and that is a wonderful privilege!

We hope to see you all soon. Take care and look after your family!

Sharing a Smile

Our wonderful children have made some beautiful cards for local residents to bring a smile to the faces of those who are self isolating.

Science in Pine Class

We have been conducting experiments to find out which material is the most waterproof.  We managed to stay quite dry during the experiments and we have all managed to find a material that we believe to be the most waterproof.

An Easter Bonnet Competition

We have entered the Hobbycraft Easter Bonnet competition and we have been busy designing and making our entry which can be viewed and voted for in our Yeovil store.  Please vote for our bonnet next time you are shopping in Hobbycraft.

Kindness Rocks

We have been painting rocks with kind words, to make a whole school display. We enjoyed designing and creating our positive rocks.

Sport Relief

Sport relief was full of fun, including a tug of war where Pine class were over-powered by the mighty Pear class.  We also completed a run in our efforts to raise money for this very worthy charity. Well done Year One.

We shared our books with Reception

In our Science lessons this term, we have been learning about different materials.  This week we have been using a selection of materials to make our own ‘Three Little Pigs’ books which we enjoyed sharing with the Reception classes.

World Book Day

We are having a fantastic day celebrating World Book Day by sharing books with other classes and discussing our favourite books.

Thank you to our lovely families for our amazing costumes.  We look great!

Book Fair

We had a super time looking around the book fair gathering ideas for our own books.  Our finished books are amazing with wonderful textured pages.

Feeding the Birds

As part of out Outdoor Learning curriculum, we worked together to join sticks and make a bird feeder for our terrace.  We filled the feeder with seed and we are eagerly waiting to see the birds on our feeder.

Meeting Yeovil Town Football Players

We are delighted that YTFC have chosen our school as one of their ‘Adopt a School’ programme schools.   We enjoyed meeting some of the players whilst wearing our new t.shirts we have been given by the club and we look forward to furure projects with the team.

Thanks YTFC!

Shrove Tuesday

In Year 1 we have been learning to toss pancakes and race with them today.  The children showed great skill in catching the pancakes and we had a lot of fun learning about the importance of this Christian Day. At the end of the lesson we enjoyed tasting the pancakes too!

Spring Is Coming

We have been outside looking for signs of Spring and we are delighted to report that Spring is on its way!

As we walked around the school grounds, we found some buds on the trees and some beautiful flowers.  When we arrived back in the classroom, we decided to plant some seeds of our own.

Disco

We had great fun dancing and demonstrating our best moves at the P.T.A disco.

Noah's Ark Zoo Farm Visit

We had a wonderful time when we visited the Zoo and we saw some amazing animals.  The animals were keen to come and see us and the children were surprised to see how big some of the animals were when they were up close to us.

We looked at the different enclosures and we discussed where the animals came from and how their enclosures reflected their natural habitats.

Mrs Hodgson's Tea Party

The Year 1 Tea Party was well received by the children who enjoyed a cake and a drink with Mrs Hodgson as a reward for their hard work and enthusiasm in class.

A New Sign

Year 1 have been working hard to create a new WELCOME sign for our school garden.  We were very lucky because Bradfords Building Supplies kindly supplied us with some Marine Plywood for our sign.  We designed our new sign and we used paint and tiles to make a bright and exciting new sign which can be seen at the entrance to our school.

Safeguarding

We have been learning about safeguarding and the importance of keeping ourselves and others safe within our classroom.  We have thought about many different ways of keeping safe and we are always looking for opportunities to improve the safety in our classroom.

Father Christmas

We were so excited when our P.T.A brought Father Christmas into our Singing practise.  Father Christmas spent some time in our classroom and he gave us some wonderful gifts for our classes to enjoy playing with.

Thank you Father Christmas.

Our Christmas Service

We enjoyed our walk down to St James' Church where Rev. Ruth Chapman led our service.  We sang some traditional Christmas Carols and recreated the Nativity Tableau at the front of the Church.

Making Puppets

We had a lot of fun designing and making our puppets.  We sometimes found the sewing tricky but we were amazed to see how wonderful our puppets looked when we had finished.

Year 1 Nativity

The children had a fantastic time preparing for and performing their Nativity play to parents.  It was lovely to see the children come alive on stage as they delivered their well rehearsed lines.

Pudsey Visit

We were delighted to see Pudsey today and tell him about how we will be raising money for Children in Need.

Remembrance Biscuits

In Year 1, we learned about Remembrance and the significance of the poppy.  We made Poppy biscuits.

Outdoor Learning

We used resources from the natural environment to make a beautiful poppy on the playground, as we remembered the soldiers who have died in War.

Mask Making

In Year 1, we have been working with our parents and the artist Darrell Wakelam to make animal masks.  We looked at the pictures of a range of animals, then we worked together to create our masterpieces from card and tissue paper.

Bread Making

Pine Class have been learning about ‘The Little Red Hen’ story.  We helped each other to make some bread. We mixed the ingredients with the spoon, then we used our hands to knead the mixture, it was a bit sticky!  When the dough had expanded, we plaited the bread and cooked it. The bread was very tasty.

Year 1 Maths Lesson

We have been using different construction kits to make a selection of 3D shapes.  Some shapes were easier to make than others!

Harvest Festival

Our generous Parents have donated lots of tins and packets of food for our Harvest Festival.  Our tins and packets are now on their way to the 'Lord's Larder' to help local families in need.
