Summer First Half

22nd - 26th May. This week we visited St James Church to look at the knitted bible stories. They were amazing and we loved looking at them and reading the cards about the story they were portraying.

We have new tablets! Thank you so much to the PTA for buying these for Year 3. They will help us to practise our times tables, as well as helping us with the rest of our curriculum.

This week it was World Ocean Day. Ellie, our Eco Club member, gave us lots of information about why it is important to look after our oceans. We created leaflets to show our information and facts we learnt.

In Craft Club, we decorated wooden medals with patterns of our choosing.

15th - 19th May. We made savoury tarts in Design Technology this week. We looked at different foods and the countries they are grown in. They were delicious!

We painted our homemade paper in Art this week. We used Anglo Saxon symbols to write our names and created patterns.

We have been measuring capacity and reading scales this week in Maths. We estimated the amount of water different containers would hold and then measured to find out if we were right. We used a range of different bottles and tubs...we even found that a Fruit Shoot bottle is much bigger than the amount of juice it holds and worked out that the company could put another 30ml in each bottle! We emailed Robinsons to let them know...

8th - 12th May. It was our trip to Moon’s Hill Quarry in Frome this week! We had so much fun; it was really exciting and interesting to go into the quarry to see how it works. We also spent time in the Science Centre, taking part in workshops about fossils and rock testing.

In Art, we made paper! We used brown packing paper to rip strips and layer them using glue to create an old-looking piece of paper. We let it dry and will decorate next week.

In Music, we have been playing glockenspiels to continue our topic of The Human Body. We played along with some music to create a tune to go with how our muscles work.

2nd - 5th May. We celebrated the Coronation of King Charles III this week in true Preston Primary style...we had a whole school assembly led by Mrs Hodgson with the new Mayor of Yeovil as our special guest! We then spent the day doing lovely craft activities, some to do with the Coronation, some to do with Australia, as that was the Commonwealth country we chose to learn about. We made didgeridoos, orbs and sceptres, crowns and badges. We were surprised by sweets and chocolates all the way from Australia as an extra treat! We enjoyed a drink and ice cream from the PTA (Thank you!) and then had a fabulous show in the hall where Year 4 danced, Years 1 and 5 sang and the choir entertained us with their singing. We ended the day with a parade around the playground.

We made good old apple crumble in DT today! We made it as part of our food topic. We took it in turns to make the crumble which was lots of fun. We then enjoyed eating it afterwards!

24th - 28th April. In History, we learnt about King Alfred the Great. We have special artefacts in school to help with our learning.

It was ‘Wear Purple Day’’ today for our wonderful Invincibles children. Invincibles Club is for children who have parents in the Forces. Lexi wore purple for her dad today and she spoke beautifully about his job and what it means for her family to be part of the Navy.

18th - 21st April. Welcome back to the Summer term! We kicked off the week by playing on the new play equipment donated by the PTA! Thank you PTA, we love it!

In DT, we have been thinking about fruit that is grown in different countries of the world. We made fruit kebabs...they were yummy!

In Music, we were thinking about our bodies and the names of bones. We sang a song and used instruments to add some interesting sounds.

We focused on internet safety in a computing this week. We remembered how to stay safe online and how to protect ourselves and our private information.
