Dear Our Wonderful Year 1 Parents and Children,

This year, World Book Day is on 4th March 2021 and, although we are not all at school on this date, we would still like to celebrate the event by joining together, at home and online to share some book related activities.

The theme for WBD this year is books from around the world and the Year 1 Teaching team have chosen to study some African stories.  We thought this would be good as we have been learning about animals and there are lots of wonderful animals native to Africa.

Therefore, as there are so many of us who are at home, learning through Teams, we thought it would be great if we could each create an African animal mask to wear on screen or into school on Thursday 4th March.

We have attached some pdfs of simple masks to copy or print out and make into a beautiful mask to wear, but of course you may have someone at home who is an expert at making masks and you are welcome to design and make your own mask of an African animal.  We can’t wait to see you in your masks on screen or in school.

Once again, we would like to thank you all for working so hard and we look forward to seeing everyone in school soon.

Best wishes for a happy and healthy half term.

Chinese New Year

The Teachers and children had a wonderful time learning about Chinese New Year, both at home and in school.

Gong Hei Fat Choy!

Pancake Races

Today, we enjoyed learning about Shrove Tuesday, Ash Wednesday and Lent.  We also liked hearing about Olney in 1445, where a lady ran to church with her frying pan and her pancake because she was late for the Church Service.

We all had a go at racing with a pancake today.  Some children were racing against each other on screen, whilst others were racing in the playground.  We were all brilliant and had a wonderful time.

The Teachers weren’t as good as the children.

Mrs Gaylard Knows Best

Well children, we don’t know how but Mrs Gaylard clearly knows more about gardening than anyone else.  Here is Mrs Gaylard’s super seed, growing in the cotton wool.

And here are our seeds, not growing in compost, sand or the paper towel!

National Storytelling Week

This week is National Storytelling week so Mrs Gaylard, Mrs Lowe and Mrs Charter would like to share some stories with you.
