Art

At Preston C of E Primary, we believe that Art is essential in fostering pupils’ spiritual development; it allows them to explore and express their spirituality through creativity and reflection, helping them appreciate beauty and connect with something greater than themselves. This engagement nurtures a sense of awe and wonder, enriching their overall educational experience.

Grand Opening of The Studio

Today was a momentous occasion for our school and community, as we officially opened our new school studio.

As the flagship school of the trust, we strive to provide the ultimate provision for our children and as such, we decided the next goal for Preston would be to achieve Arts Mark Status for our school. When we began our Arts Mark journey, we had a vision of providing a dedicated space for Art and Design. We want to see creativity thrive, not just within our school walls but in the broader local community as well. We are excited to see how this inspiring space will allow students, staff, and the community to explore, learn, and grow together. Our vision for this space is to offer more than just art classes—it’s a place for our students to let their light shine through workshops, hands-on learning, and countless other opportunities.

We would like to acknowledge the people who donated their time, skills, and expertise. Whether you helped with the planning, construction, decorating, or any of the other countless tasks, your contributions have been invaluable. This studio truly reflects the collective effort of our wonderful community.

We would like to say a special shout out to Joe from the organisation Able 2 Achieve. Joe and his wonderful team of adult learners have created the beautiful mosaic sign for our studio. Thank you to Joe and your team for providing time, care and for being a wealth of knowledge about community contacts.

Leonardo’s as part of their commitment outreach service, very generously donated the  stainless steel sinks needed for the job and allowed us to rummage around their disposal unit looking for things we could use or re-purpose for the space. Thank you to Suze and her team for overseeing our scavenging.

Morrisons and Tesco donated cake for the opening and the lovely PTA helped with refreshments.

A huge thank you to Watertite for transforming the exhausted plumbing into a functioning cleaning station.

Art Studio

This year we have begun our journey towards gaining the prestigious Artsmark award. This is the only award for schools which is certified by the Arts Council of England, and is supported by Goldsmiths University, London.

One of our targets we have set for the award it to create a central creative hub where all of our art supplies are pooled together for all to use. Having a central creative hub will allow us to do greater and grander art projects, and expose the children to the wider range of art techniques.

Maple Class had a test run of The Studio during their art class this week, and learnt how to use score and slip method to decorate a clay pinch pot.

Black History Month Art Competition

A huge congratulations to Rose Farwell from Year 2 and Chelsea Brown from Year 6 who are the final winners of our Black History Month Competition! Your effort and attention to detail was exemplary. Well done girls and we hope that you enjoy your new Art Set!

Art aims

Art, craft and design embody some of the highest forms of human creativity. A high-quality art and design education should engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They should also know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.
