Activity 8 News Around The World
Using the clocks already in school displaying the time around the world (our link schools), we will create a display board identifying these countries on a map and finding any local news relevant to these countries. In addition to this, any other interesting news will be added to the display with corresponding flags of the countries discussed. The school will subscribe to a magazine that will help to bring news events to the forefront (The Week - Junior). Classes will be encouraged to share the display with their class as they pass it in the corridor. This will help to provide opportunities for class assemblies and discussions to discover new facts and information about the countries we are linked with.
Building on this KS2 display, KS1 will have their own display discussing the travels of Paddington Bear around the World. This is a Save The Children Fund resource and therefore the class will be made aware that by donating a small amount of money to this charity, they will not only receive this resource but will be helping families around the world that are less fortunate than themselves. The display and resource will form the basis of a Geography topic and discussion points for assemblies in class and whole school assemblies.
